A novel LFC scheme using storage battery control and generator feed-forward control for large-scale wind power penetration

    In Japan, frequency deviation under large-scale wind power penetration will soon become a major problem. To balance supply and demand, there is an idea of using storage batteries for power systems. However, storage batteries have disadvantage in terms of cost and durability compared with pumped-storage plants. This paper proposes a novel Load Frequency Control (LFC) scheme applying storage batteries with a disturbance observer. Simulations are run to confirm that the proposed scheme is able to significantly suppress the frequency and tie-line power flow deviations.
