A study of Design Guideline on Bidirectional Wireless Power Transfer for Railway Vehicles focused on DC Voltages and Current Oscillation

    Low-cost and energy-saving transportation system can be realized by innovating electric railcars with Energy Storage Devices (ESDs) to non-electrified line [1]. Partial dynamic Bidirectional Wireless Power Transfer (BIWPT) is key technology to reduce ESD on board, compared with electric railcars with ESD which is charged by stationary charging system.But few studies have focused on guidance of DC voltages and current oscillation caused by circuit and voltage source inverters about BIWPT. In this paper, a system configuration and control method of BIWPT for electric railcar are shown. And experimental results using 1kW-class WPT coil are shown. Then, this paper reveals the requirement of circuit conditions of the system and characteristics of high-frequency oscillation of current due to voltage source inverters and propose one guideline for system design.
