In this study, the stability of annular Ieakage- flow- induced vibrations was investigated theoretically and experimentally for a translationally and rotationally coupled two- degree- of- freedom system. The critical flow rate was both theoretically and experimentally obtained as a function of the passage increment ratio and the eccentricity of the passage. A good agreement between the theoretical and experimental results was obtatined. It was discovered both theoretically and from the experiments that instability will occur in the case of a divergent passage: the eccentricity of the passage lowers the stability of the systems.
