Affinity of carbon material to methanogenic bacteria

In this work, using the porous materials derived from the montmorillonite-α-naphthylamine complex (MNC) sol, the affinity of carbon material to methanogenic bacteria was suggested. It is unlikely that the carbon material is favourable for adhesion of any kind of bacteria. The topographical state of the carbon material strongly affects its affinity to bacteria, therefore specimens with a different porous structure might produce different results from those reported here. Anyhow, since the affinity of a solid support to bacteria seems also to be governed by additional factors [6-8], the relations between such governing factors and individual bacteria must be revealed in detail in order to design a highly efficient bioreactor.
