An attribute-based naming architecture for Wireless Sensor Networks using a virtual counterpart overlay network

In Wireless Sensor Networks, the attribute-based naming using data-centric characteristics of sensor nodes has been attracted researchers' attention because it is impractical for sensor applications to communicate directly to an individual sensor node. Related researches proposed effective data abstraction scheme essential for a smart sensing, but they reveals several weaknesses of heavy code problem, function extensibility and interoperability with existing sensor network architectures. We propose an attribute-based naming architecture using an overlay network consisting of virtual counterparts that represent physical sensors. Proposed attribute-based naming architecture provides a higher data abstraction for sensing data with intuitive data manipulation operations which can be easily extended without any modification of physical sensor nodes.
