N2 - The objective of this study was to determine the contact areas, pressure distribution patterns, and maximum pressures in twelve contemporary total knee designs. As experience has been gained with knee replacement in the last decade, the second generation total knee designs are now emerging in the two basic types: minimal conformity, and moderate conformity. The parameters of area and pressure in current prosthetic designs were measured and compared to the known physical properties of UHMWPE. (from paper)
