Control of reactive distillation through the multiple steady state conditions

The characteristics and controllability of reactive distillation are analyzed from multiple steady states conditions. Reactive distillation column for TAME synthesis is modeled. The conditions for making multiple steady states are derived on the basis of the flow rate. The multiple steady states between reboiler duty and composition of TAME composition are obtained in composition control model. For a column operating at the low steady states, a pulse injection of pure TAME for a short period results in a shift from the low to the higher steady state. The results highlight a possible approach to provide useful information for advanced operation policies.
