Design Optimization and Fabrication of Simple Printable Piezoelectric Energy Harvest Device

This paper reports design optimization of vibration based energy harvest device fabricated by simple printing and laminating process using polymeric piezoelectric material (VDF/TrFE). Modified trapezoidal design increased the output voltage and energy dramatically by adhesion strength as well as improvement of internal stress distribution of the device. The process guaranteed simple (fast and low cost) fabrication of energy harvest device and the new design achieved 277 V and 1014 nJ outputs which is about 3 times higher than that of our previous device. Furthermore, by stacking the devices and connecting them in parallel, we increased the output energy into about 2.58μ J.
