We have reported the effects of metalloporphyrins as SOD mimics on the anticancer and antioxidation. Fe-porphyrins as SOD mimics convert intracellular O2- · to H2O2 and it reacts on iron porphyrins to form OH · by Fenton reaction. Finally, H 2O2 and OH · generated by the Fe-porphyrin are expected to cause cell death. In this study, we have synthesized liposomes with water-soluble cationic metalloporphyrins as SOD mimic and have investigated the effect of the liposomes on cancer cell death. Liposomes were prepared using a sonication method. Cell viabilities of cell lines treated with Fe-porphyrins, liposomes containing Fe-porphyrins, and cisplatin were estimated by a Alamar Blue Assay. Liposomes containing Fe-porphyrins showed a significant cytotoxicity for cancer cell as compared with cisplatin.
