Gravity current plays an important role on the occurrence of backdraft in building fire, which causes the death of people in situ and the collapse of building due to its abruptness and powerful destroys. In order to study the fluid structure of gravity current prior to backdraft, salt water model is adopted. In this paper, a series of scaled water experiments using DPIV (Digital Particle Image Velocimetry) and numerical simulation based on LES (Large Eddy Simulation) were conducted. The scaled compartment (0.4m × 0. 1 m × 0.1 m) was fitted with two end opening geometries, i.e. full and middle-slot openings. Results presented here include velocity and density profiles of fluid structure of gravity current from experimental data and numerical simulation.
