Far-infrared resonance in Sr2RuO4

The optical properties of the 3 K phase of Sr2RuO4 were examined along the c axis at low frequencies and temperatures. Little difference was found above and below TC. The coherent motion of the carriers expected at low temperatures was confirmed through the observation of a drude-like upturn in the optical conductivity. The zero-frequency limit of the frequency-dependent scattering rate followed the T2 temperature dependence expected for a Fermi liquid. A strong resonance was observed near 9 meV. At low tempratures and frequencies, carriers have insufficient energy to interact with the mode, and the frequency-dependent scattering rate was strongly suppressed.
