Seasonal field surveys were conducted to investigate the thermal comfort conditions in train stations in Tokyo from July 2004 to January 2005. The survey consisted of 4 methods: 1) occupancy condition survey, 2) Attitude survey on train stations, 3) thermal environment measurement and 4) thermal comfort questionnaire. The survey aimed to investigate the thermal comfort conditions for 2 different purposes; passing by and staying. By accepting the 20% dissatisfied criteria, the upper comfort limit was about 26 oC for both passers-by and occupants. The acceptability range for occupying passengers was found to be 11-32 oC in operative temperature.
