    Digital signal processing technology has found successful application areas such as voice-band modems, digital tone receivers, voice synthesizers, and transmultiplexers. Some LSI DSPs have been developed and many seem to be under development. A new powerful LSI DSP called FDSP3 was developed by using CMOS technology. The following four points were set as targets in designing the FDSP3. 1) to be capable of high speed operation; 2) to have versatile data handling capability; 3) to be equipped with a suitable capacity of RAM and ROM; and 4) to have powerful support tools.
