Increased cell functionalities with patterned co-cultures utilizing dual thermo-responsive polymer grafted surfaces

The impact of increased cell functionalities with patterned co-cultures was investigated by utilizing thermo-responsive hydrophilic property changes of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PIPAAm). It was observed that regulating transition temperature of PIPAAm produce new culture for co-culture and in recovering co-cultured cell sheets. The cell functions were estimated by altering pattern sizes in the co-culture system. The results show that the stratification of co-cultured cell sheets leads to the creation of novel tissue constructs structurally similar to the native organs and tissues.
