Investigation of laterally-enhanced growth mechanism of Au electrodeposition onto SiO2 surface modified with organic molecules

We investigated the influence of electrodeposition conditions to the laterally-enhanced growth from a patterned electrode onto a SiO2 surface modified with organic molecules. After modifying the SiO2 surface with polyamidoamine (PAMAM) or self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES), electrodeposition was carried out toward lateral direction on the SiO2 surface. In order to investigate the influence of the coverage of the organic molecules, the different coverage of APTES-SAMs on the SiO2 were prepared, and it was suggested that Au ions adsorbed at APTES-SAMs enhance the lateral growth. It was also confirmed that condition of the laterally- enhanced growth, such as thickness and morphology, was changed in accordance with the change in the applied potential and the concentration of Au ions in the bath.
