A joint time-spectral vector quantization that achieves much lower bit rates on the average than ordinary spectral vector quantizers is discussed. The principle and quantities used are contained within the theory of linear predictive coding (LPC) so that theoretical clearness and the circumvention of unnecessary system complexity are promoted. The theory and method lead to an architecture for a pipelined inverse filter array for VLSI.
