Temporal and spatial resolutions of hot-film anemometer (CTA) and laser-Doppler anemometer (LDA) were studied on the unsteady turbulent flow generated behind a prosthetic heart valve under pulsatile flow condition. Frequency response was lower in the LDA measurements (approximately 1 kHz) than in the CTA ones (approximately 6 kHz). Although the calculated dimensions of the LDA sampling volume were 0. 06 mm in diameter and 0. 4 mm in length, the actual dimensions were estimated to be about 0. 3 mm and 1 mm, respectively. The CTA measurement was influenced by the partial blockage of flow caused by the CTA probe.
