N2 - The load on tunnel lining is the main factor that is used for lining design in mechanized and NATM tunnels. In mechanized tunnelling, the amount of soil convergence near and behind the machine tail is among the main factors that can reduce the lining load. There are different methods for calculation of the lining load in soft soil such as empirical, numerical, and direct field measurements. This study discusses some common methods for estimation of the load on the circular lining in clayey soil. The numerical model used in this study was initially created before actual field excavation and is considered to be class A prediction. Limited measurement data of a tunnelling case in medium soft clay are used to discuss the amount of an imposed load on lining.
