N2 - We propose a low loss bus-type access network with a novel signal selector. The signal selector has no splitting loss and can allow us to increase the maximum number of subscribers, because a copy of the downstream signal is generated by four wave mixing (FWM) in the signal selector. We numerically calculate the optimal range of the wavelength allocation and the optical powers of the optical signals used in our proposed network. We experimentally demonstrate that each optical network unit (ONU) can receive a copy of the downstream signal at 1.25 Gbit/s with a power penalty of less than 0.5 dB. Moreover, we clarify that our proposed network is superior to the conventional bus-type network in terms of the maximum number of subscribers.
