Multidisciplinary optimization for dynamic responses of beams with time-dependent change of their lengths

    Structural systems with longitudinal mass flow(axially moving materials) can be seen in beltconveyers, running magnetic tapes and flexible manipulators etc. And the transverse vibration problems of flexible moving beams in longitudinal direction whose lengths change with time(extensible beams) are considered as a special class of the vibration problems of such structural systems. The controls of dynamic responses of transverse vibration of such extensible beams are sometimes required in industrial manipulator systems. But there is no research about the sensitivity analysis of dynamic responses with respect to design variables and optimum design to control the dynamic responses of such extensible beams. In this paper, we consider the multidisciplinary optimum design problem to control the dynamic responses of such longitudinal moving beams with time-dependent change of their lengths based on the presented optimum design method in authors' previous studies. We consider to control the dynamic response together with the tension and mass flow's velocity there. Effectiveness of the multidisciplinary optimum design method is shown and discussed through numerical examples.
