A discussion is presented of the completely adaptive Huffman coding system, which corresponds automatically to a status change in the statistical characteristics of data read out of the database and its effect, for the purpose of attaining ease of handling and optimum code length. The main features of the data compression system are as follows: (1) the application of statistical properties of data transmission; (2) the improvement in dictionary access efficiency; and (3) highly efficient data compression by a simplified algorithm.
