Nonlinear behavior in the electrical resistance of strongly correlated insulators

We studied the nonlinear behavior in the electrical resistance of various correlated insulators. We found that, irrespective of the origin of the insulating state, the resistivity starts decreasing above a critical field Ec, which hardly depends on the temperature and the compound, at a time scale of less than microseconds. This universal behavior in the nonlinear resistivity is discussed on the basis of percolation conduction in a disordered system. We also discuss a substantial decrease in the resistance at the longer time scale of milliseconds.
