The performance of an on-chip direct methanol fuel cell of monolithic design with an active-type system was improved more than 6-fold up to >100 W by using hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant solution instead of dissolved oxygen, but the energy-loss caused by strong capillary forces required a redesign of both microchannel size and the system.
