In order to insure a stable communication link in optical telemetry, the receiver has to have a high signal-to-noise ratio, wide band O/E conversion and a large dynamic-range. Increase of a light-receiving area without narrowing the bandwidth can be attained by the use of a light-collecting system such as a lens. However, a lens generally makes the receiving angle of a telemeter narrow. Thus, light-collecting and -concentrating techniques were studied to satisfy the conflicting requirements in optical biotelemetry i. e. high sensitivity and a wide receiving angle. The optical characteristic of a receiver is clarified in the computer simulation based on the ray-tracing principle. This technique enables us to design an optimal arrangement of receiving optics for the efficient and practical optical biotelemetry.
