Pitch control for a constant-speed wind turbine using equivalent-input- disturbance approach

As the penetration level of wind energy is increasing, it is becoming more and more important that the output of a wind turbine is stabilized at a prescribed value under a turbulence environment. And this is crucial to guarantee the stability of the power grid. A pitch-controlled constant-speed wind turbine is widely used due to the low cost and reliability. The output power is regulated by adjusting its pitch angle. This paper describes a pitch control method that uses the equivalent-input-disturbance (EID) approach for the control of the pitch angle of a constant-speed wind turbine. An equivalent input disturbance, which has the same effect on the produced power as the wind disturbance does, is estimated by an EID estimator. And it is used to eliminate the effect of the wind disturbance. Simulations show the effectiveness of this method.
