N2 - All-acrylic block copolymer precursors can be synthesized via anionic techniques demonstrating predictable molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distributions. Poly(2-ethylhexyl methacrylate) can possess such desirable properties as a low glass transition temperature, alkane solubility, and a hydrophobic character. Quantitative hydrolysis of poly(t-butyl methacrylate) blocks allows for very distinct hydrophobic-hydrophilic block copolymers. The derived ion-containing block copolymers will serve as excellent model systems for the elucidation of structure-property relationships. It is believed that the extent and mechanisms of coulombic aggregation will be significantly different than the corresponding random systems.
