Possible cause of chemiluminescence in silicone rubber

抄録

Chemiluminescence (CL) was observed in silicone rubber (SiR), an important electrical insulating material. Fourier-Transform mid-infrared absorption spectra were also measured before and after the CL measurement. When SiR was heated at 250 °C, CL clearly appeared in 20 min. It was also confirmed that no carbonyl groups were induced by the heating during the CL measurement. A possible mechanism to explain these results is that the oxidation of silicon, which induces the cross-linking of siloxane bonds and the formation of silica particles, generates the CL.
