Electropolymerizable iron porphyrins have been found to be effective as an electrocatalyst for the detection of a superoxide anion radical. Thiophene 3-substituted with an imidazolyl group was synthesized and electropolymerized. Coordination of the imidazolyl group to various iron complexes provided a novel electrocatalyst for the detection of superoxide. Properties of the electrochemical sensors were evaluated.
