A study was conducted to develop a novel linear hybrid motor (LHM) for the best possible use of both linear induction motor (LIM) and linear synchronous motor (LSM). By adopting the symmetrical double-sided construction with ring winding, both the offset of vertical and the velocity control of travelling field were achieved. Analytical and experiments results confirm that the LHM is effective for practical use in the viewpoint of self-starting and damping effect.
