The main objectives of this study are to develop a set of criteria for sedimentary basins ranking system that suit to the specific Indonesia geological characteristics and estimate the storage capacity of depleted oil and gas reservoirs. From 60 identified sedimentary basins, Kutai, Tarakan and South Sumatera Basins are respectively ranked in the top three. Well-known and relatively stable geological structure, and established infrastructures are the dominant factors. More than 600 Mt of CO2 is able to store at the depleted oil and gas reservoirs in Indonesia. However, the potential storage capacity might increase as more data are available.
