A polythiophene derivative bearing the pendant dithiolthione group was synthesized by oxidative polymerization of 3-thiophene malonic acid dimethyl ester and the following cyclization. UV-vis and ESR spectroscopy indicated that a radical cation was formed by oxidation of the dithiolthione ring. Membrane of the polymer was redox active and applicable to an electrode material.
