The pressure losses at manifold junctions in a molten carbonate fuel cell stack depend on the stacking position of the cells and the manifold flow rate, and affect uniformity of gas flow rate in each cell. Pressure losses at dividing and combining junctions in a 100-cell plate heat exchanger type stack were examined by numerical analysis. The junction pressure losses at various cell stacking positions were calculated under various flow rate conditions, ranging from the minimum (80% fuel gas utilization) to the maximum possible flow rate (10% oxidant gas utilization).
