Rhodopotilapia gracialis is a representative of a new fossil genus and species from the Cichlidae family dating from the Early Oligocene. It was found nearby Novo Sokolino Village, Momchilgrad Municipality in the Eastern Rhodopes. The characteristics of the species exhibit some similarity with recent cichlids belonging to Tilapiini tribe, but others characterize it as a primitive representative of the family, previously unknown. The matrix rock is volcanic tuff (acid pyroclastics), dated 32.28 to 31.82 Ma (Ar/Ar method). Rhodopotilapia gracialis is the second fossil representative of the Cichlidae family found in Europe.
