Room temperature ferromagnetism in a Sr0.75Y 0.25CoO2.64 single crystal

    We have successfully prepared single crystals of Sr0.75Y 0.25CoO3-δ, which exhibit a ferromagnetic transition at 370 K. To our knowledge, this is the highest transition temperature (T c) among perovskite Co oxides. The Tc and the saturation magnetization of the single crystal are larger than those of polycrystalline samples. We attribute these superior properties of the single crystals to a less disordered structure grown in thermal equilibrium conditions. This implies that the ferromagnetism is easily affected by deficiency or disordering.
