Shear capacity of reinforced concrete beams with initial cracks

Flexural shear properties of beams with initial cracks were investigated. Flexural shear loading tests were carried out using 20 beam specimens, which were reinforced in the axial direction with deformed PC bars of 1.30% of cross sectional area ratio and in the transverse direction with stirrups of 0 to 0.476% of cross sectional area ratio. Specimens with and without initial cracks were produced by applying tension of 0 to 33tf (tensile stress of concrete of 0 to 27.5kgf/cm 2) in the axial direction. Ultimate shear capacity did not decrease due to the axial tension and initial cracks in these experiments, but initial flexural rigidity decreased, and deflection and crack width increased due to initial cracks.
