Structural biology, in which the mechanisms of biological systems are elucidated by the three-dimensional structures of biomacromolecules, such as proteins and nucleic acids, is rapidly progressing. An aim of our research is to establish a novel strategy for understanding the functions of biomacromolecules through structural biology as well as biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology. In this article, we discuss our current progress in structural biology toward understanding the mechanisms of translation, DNA recombination, centromere architecture, and signal transduction.
