The spin-1 bosons interacting antiferromagnetically in an optical lattice were investigated to study the superfluid-Mott insulator (SF-MI) transition. The phase boundaries between SF and MI phase were calculated to study the SF-MI transition of spin-0 bosons to the spin-1 case. The zero-temperature phase diagram was obtained by a mean-field approximation, starting from the Bose-Hubbard tight-binding model for spin-1 bosons. The results show that the MI phase is strongly stabilized against the SF phase when the number of atoms per lattice is even.
