SVC-based cooperative video streaming in highway vehicular networks

Video streaming over vehicular networks has considerable benefits for both road safety and entertainment. In this paper, realtime videos encoded with Scalable Video Coding (SVC) over cooperative vehicular networks are investigated to improve the performances of the video streaming services. We formulate a joint optimization problem to answer the questions of how to select the relay vehicular users to assist the video users, how to assign network resources to direct and cooperative communications, and how many video layers should be transmitted for each video user. This problem is NP-hard, and we decouple the problem into two subproblems, i.e., the Relay Assignment (RA) subproblem and Resource allocation and SVC layer selection (RS) subproblem. We transform the RA subproblem to a Maximum Weighted Bipartite Matching (MWBM) problem, and use Hungarian algorithm and BellmanFord algorithm to solve the MWBM problem, and propose the Maximum Utility Increment (MUI) algorithm to solve the RS subproblem. The simulation results show the superiority of the proposed scheme over the competing scheme in typical scenarios.
