Symbiotic computing: Concept, architecture and its applications

    Aiming towards the next generation ubiquitous stage we have been pursuing a research on information and communication paradigm, called "Symbiotic computing." Here, we first describe a basic concept and an architecture of the Symbiotic computing, and through several applications such as watch-over system for elderly people and adhoc communication support, we show and discuss the effectiveness of the Symbiotic computing. We first define the traditional ubiquitous computing environment that consists of two computing aspects: mobile computing and pervasive computing. Then, we define the advanced ubiquitous computing that consists of two computing axes: the traditional ubiquitous computing and web computing, In addition to these two axes, we introduced a third new axis (creation of new value) and by integrated these three axes, we created the Symbiotic computing paradigm. Based on the concept of the Symbiotic computing, symbiotic society will be realized, where human and ubiquitous information environment can cooperatively co-exist.
