The performance of FM broadcast using radio on visible light communication systems

In this paper, a novel system of Frequency Modulation (FM) broadcast using radio on visible light communication (FM-RoVLC) is proposed. The system is aimed to provide the high quality reception of FM broadcast in some special places where the FM radio signal is banned or obviously attenuated. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed system, the simulation and experiment of the FM-RoVLC system are presented. The simulation results show that the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) of the FM-RoVLC system with ambient light is higher than 60dB while the distance between the transmitter and receiver is shorter than d = 1m, meanwhile, the SNR has a marked improvement as FM index increases. And the relationship between SNR and illumination of LEDs is analyzed, it illustrates that the SNR is high enough for high quality communication when the illumination is higher than 20lux. At last, the experiment is set up to demonstrate the performance of the proposed system
