Three-stage switching networks for N:1 multiconnection

This research describes the characteristics of multiconnection in three-stage switching networks. The condition under which an arbitrary idle inlet can connect to an arbitrary outlet is shown; it is also shown that when the number of outlets is large, three-stage switching networks that are nonblocking for N:1 multiconnection can be designed with fewer crosspoints than by a simple matrix switch. The traffic handling performance of 1:1 nonblocking Clos's switching networks for multiconnection calls is evaluated by simulation. As a result, it is shown that switching networks with blocking probability around 10-4 can be designed with 60 percent of the crosspoints required in the simple matrix switch case.
