抄録

In children as in adults, there are many patients who develop profound heart failure after open heart surgery. Since intra-aortic balloon pumping is not always effective in children and venoarterial bypass is very complicated, more effective and safer approaches for cardiac assistance are needed. Towards such a purpose the authors have developed 2 sizes of air-driven and diaphragm type VADs for children. In this paper, the results of in vitro and in vivo evaluations are reported.
