The Advanced Research Center for Science and Engineering in Waseda University has been developing an anthropomorphic robot, called humanoid, to work in interaction with humans within the human living environment, as well as a new type of information terminal connection to a network. The `Humanoid' project is introduced, describing two ideas on the robot vision system that have been realized recently: an audiovisual processing to detect a speaking human in the scene; and a mode-based self-position detection and object position detection. Both are implemented in the latest humanoid robot prototype.
