This chapter presents the operating principle of wireless signal encapsulation and transmission over the seamless fiber-mmWave system in both downlink and uplink (UL) directions. It discusses the use of different methods and the corresponding transmission impairments on the signal performance. The chapter also presents examples of the signal transmission over the system and estimate the possible transmission distance of the mmWave links. Mobile fronthaul systems based on radio-over-fiber (RoF) technology can reduce the required data rate and transmission latency, simplify antenna sites, enable co-existence of multiple radios, and support delay sensitive and critical applications. A signal encapsulation on a combined mmWave and RoF system can also be realized for the UL transmission of mobile signals over a fronthaul system. The phase noise of the generated mmWave signal also has an influence on the signal transmission when coherent detection is used at the receiver.
